Wandering the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum

What better way to ring in the New Year than to step back in time to some old ones. We visited the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose during New Year’s Eve, and couldn’t have been happier to find it!

While not huge, this Egyptian museum was a good size to wander around and explore. There were 3 levels and plenty to see and do. Exhibits included real mummies, reimagined alchemy workspaces, beautiful statues, tools and relics, and an interactive replica of a Nomarch’s tomb.

The tomb replica was our favorite. Past a large stone entrance on the ground floor, visitors wander in between rock walls and dimly lit rooms to reach the tomb space. There, hieroglyphics and paintings line the walls and a casket sits center above a large hole. You feel as though you’re somewhere in Egypt.

From there, you walk through the dark hallways and emerge back to present day, in the brightly lit exhibit space on the other side. And if you wander around some more, you’ll spot this beauty.

Do lounge in their library (we did!) and catch up on some Egyptian history before resuming your tour. There is also a beautiful Egyptian garden out back behind the Museum.

The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is a must see if you have a penchant for ancient cultures, a curiosity, or just a few hours on your hands in San Jose.

To browse leisurely, budget at least 2-3 hours into your day for it. Tickets run about $9 a person, a steal for the experience. If you’re on a time crunch or just want a quick look around, we recommend coming an hour before closing (museum closes at 6pm Saturday-Sunday and 5pm Wednesday-Friday). Admission becomes free to the public in the last hour. This is perfect for squeezing into a packed schedule or those on a tight budget.

And the icing on the cake? Parking is free. There is free public parking nearby in residential areas as well as a designated lot out back for museum guests. We came on a holiday and found a parking space easily within 5 minutes.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and would love to revisit. If you get the chance, swing by and you definitely will not regret it. Let me know how your next visit goes!

Cheers,
